New challenges for sunflower ideotyping in changing environments and more ecological cropping systems

چکیده

As a rainfed spring-sown crop, sunflower ( Helianthus annuus L.) is increasingly exposed to negative impacts of climate change, especially high temperatures and drought stress. Incremental, systemic transformative adaptations have been suggested for reducing the crop vulnerability these stressful conditions. In addition, innovative cropping systems based on low-input management, organic farming, soil water conservation practices, intercropping, double-cropping, and/or agroforestry are undergoing marked in agriculture. Because its plasticity requirements (nitrogen, water, pesticides), likely take part new agroecological systems. Aside from current production outputs (yield, oil cake), ecosystem services e.g. bee feeding, phytoremediation…), non-food industrial uses now expected externalities crop. The combination climatic societal contexts could deeply modify characteristics genotypes be cultivated main areas (either traditional or adoptive). After reviewing changes, we identify how environments traits classically considered up now, relation services. Finally, consider research provide methods help identifying interest design ideotypes.

Climate and atmosphere simulator for experiments on ecological systems in changing environments.

Grand challenges in global change research and environmental science raise the need for replicated experiments on ecosystems subjected to controlled changes in multiple environmental factors. We designed and developed the Ecolab as a variable climate and atmosphere simulator for multifactor experimentation on natural or artificial ecosystems. The Ecolab integrates atmosphere conditioning techno...

Eubacterial communities in different soil macroaggregate environments and cropping systems

Different positions within soil macroaggregates, and macroaggregates of different sizes, have different chemical and physical properties which could affect microbial growth and interactions among taxa. The hypothesis that these soil aggregate fractions contain different eubacterial communities was tested using terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) of the 16S ribosomal gene....

Modelling ecological systems in a changing world.

The world is changing at an unprecedented rate. In such a situation, we need to understand the nature of the change and to make predictions about the way in which it might affect systems of interest; often we may also wish to understand what might be done to mitigate the predicted effects. In ecology, we usually make such predictions (or forecasts) by making use of mathematical models that desc...

Cover crops support ecological intensification of arable cropping systems

A major challenge for agriculture is to enhance productivity with minimum impact on the environment. Several studies indicate that cover crops could replace anthropogenic inputs and enhance crop productivity. However, so far, it is unclear if cover crop effects vary between different cropping systems, and direct comparisons among major arable production systems are rare. Here we compared the sh...
